Re: What You Spend To Garden
Last year the only thing I spent was to buy another bag of vermiculite and two bags of peat moss to make the soil for my newest table tops. They were free as they were 8 x 4 x 6 inch risers from our church that were no longer being used. I didn't buy many seeds maybe $20 worth max. A couple bales of straw to use in my composting and as mulch in some places.
Now, don't ask me about the years before when I bought a greenhouse and.... My story is my veggies are free and I'm sticking to it

Your story
It never occurred to me to say our vegies are free. I love your attitude. I judiciously avoid the question of how much our vegies cost. Fortunately folks are smart enough not to ask. But we really get a kick out of saying "lettuce from the garden instead of Costco this time!!""

Re: What You Spend To Garden
Except for water & tulle, I'm traveling in the free lane. I've been composting forever, harvesting and trading seeds for a while now, seedlings are started in used MM in lettuce clampacks, and I got a gob of free wood from a contractor doing work across the street.
This coming year I will probably buy 4'x 50' roll of wire for the grapevines I planted but that's not part of the SFG. Altho I could use some of it for trellis's & arches for my SFG boxes.

I totally understand, Martha. Mike says that last year we spent THOUSANDS on getting the garden up & running.
Sigh.... Thankfully only 3 more boxes to build in the garden itself. But that doesn't include the TT's, etc. I want to do as well.
Re: What You Spend To Garden
I have a Wish List that changes every now and then when something more urgent rises to the top.
I was able to actually place an order a couple of days ago, a soil block maker. I know it will last for years, as others have said so. Also I can share with friends and make their life easier and more productive.

Re: What You Spend To Garden
It's hard to put a price on SFG. There is upfront costs but the rewards are too good to on which to put a price. I think the "organic," slug- and bug- free chard and kale we have eaten this winter from one of the new table tops is probably worth $50 with lots more to harvest. It may pay for itself!
