Looks like late August around here and could only hope for several days of slow steady rain....i can only wish

Shocked

Floyd I sure hope you get some rain very very soon!!! Since we seldom get rain, I drag that hose every day somewhere in my yard. It's the pits! If I get rain it confuses my schedule so I need to not expect much help in that area. Do you usually get regular rain? I would love to get a good soaking once a week, that would be so nice.

Yes we do, it's pretty soupy tonight, The sun has gone down, it's 80F, currently 66% humidity and the stinkin' dew point is 65F. We have not had rain in over two weeks. Not drought conditions, but getting mighty dry.
Blargh!!

I hope you get more rain. I know what you mean about watering the next day. We got rain more than a week ago and I thought my plants got more than they did and did not water the next day. Some dryed out too much. I should have checked.

Well, watered this morning due to no more rain. This evening we got another 4/10s but that will not keep it going! Several I have talked to in town say theirs is dead/costing them a fortune. I love my raised beds! I use a wand and only water the beds not the paths. I watched the neighbor with his sprinkler going. rofl ....he called over to me the other day that my water bill was gonna sky rocket. So wanted to tell him "not as bad as yours"

Same in western Pa. as for rain. Did get a brief shower around 10:30PM lasy night but that it went through very quickly and that was it.

I liked it when the weather forecasts gave more detail on ammounts of precipitation; they do with snow but rarely here with rain.

Didn't we have a wet summer last year?

Good Sunday Morning! Smile I already water what the grasshoppers have left me which is pretty much my melons. Rain here is pretty much hit and miss...mostly miss!
A cool 67°F here this morning, it hit 103°F here yesterday but the temp did drop 13°s late in the afternoon, the weather guessers calling for 95°F today.....
Hope y`all have a great day!

Forecast of 101 tomorrow (and humid), heat advisory already issued for the afternoon. No rain in sight until maybe Tuesday. Couldn't figure out frustration why my tomato plants - the biggest, healthiest, earliest I have ever done here in SD - have only a handful of tomatoes on them. Finally hit me this morning dangit that what the Southern forum members have been talking about is actually hitting us in the GWN. It is TOO HOT for my tomatoes to set fruit! I have never had that happen here! Been in the upper 90's for over 3 weeks now, and 100's coming tomorrow happy sunshine .

@GG

I did not know that the extreme heat effects tomatoes from setting fruit. Does the heat also effect pole beans as they are coming down my trellis and have a bunch of flowers on them but no beans?

Friday we had rain to the north and the south and at times we could see it falling but none at my house. Gonna be HOT HOT HOT for at least a week. Just saw on local weather that since April 1st we have had only 5.49 inches of rain. It will rain one day!

The heat will cause tomato flowers to drop - no flowers, no fruit! Not sure about pole beans - I always plant bush. My bush beans are just starting to take off. They seem to be loving the heat!

I would love to share with you. Friday night we had 1" in ten minutes plus a steady drizzle for the rest of Saturday. My little office got flooded as it is a basement, but luckily I had the foresight to keep all my inventory off the floor, and the only damage was empty cardboard boxes and the carpet. In addition, I rent, so the landlord is doing the clearing up.

I found a few beans but not many today. Also checked out my cukes and they have given me 4 cucumbers but all the flowers wilted up and no more cukes on there way.

Thought I read that cukes LOVE the heat or perhaps that was basil. Could this high heat efect my cucumber yields as last year I had tons.

That depends on where you are. In Pennsylvania, you could say that cukes love the heat, because your normal hot summer day might be 85 degrees.
Here in South Carolina, a hot summer day will be triple digits - and believe me we won't say, "Cukes love the heat," because this kind of heat ends the season. Even mid-90s will stop production if it lasts very long.
We pick our cukes in May and as much of June as we can. Then again in late September and October. Definitely not in the heat of summer.
