Plants coming in mail

I ordered 3 tomato and 3 pepper plants from Gurney's to be delivered in time for summer planting... Well they have shipped it out a month earlier than I wanted them too, and are due to come 4/15... I live in Zone 6a in Connecticut so I'm at least a month out of putting these in the ground... Any ideas on how I can keep these alive until I transplant them?? Can I leave them in pots and bring them out during the day and the garage at night?

Both peppers and tomatoes can be transplanted into larger pots and wait it out inside if their containers are too restricting for them. Plant them a little deeper than they were in the pot they arrived in. If you don't have a warm sunny window for them, put them outdoors in the daytime to get the sun and bring them inside in late afternoon or anytime its going to get close to 32*F. Cool weather will slow down their growth anyway. If any blossoms appear before you transplant them outdoors, nip them off.

I would email the seller and let them know they caused a dilemma for you. They may send replacments next month at the right time.

Sure! I would just grab a larger pot and transplant when they arrive, nurseries do it all the time. They keep the process up until the plants are sold. In fact, I saw some Saturday that were in gallon pots that already had small tomatoes on them. Be sure and set them outside on sunny days and they will take to the garden when it's time. Good luck.
