well....we started a few tomato seedlings a bit to early....we saved some seeds from a volunteer tomato plant from last year.....

i wanted to see if the seeds would germ....well they did...and they are now about 2 ft tall or more and set some flowers today Shocked they are still inside the house under lights....we have to up pot them again to their finale home.....do you think its warm enough for them to be move to our small out side green house here in the PNW?

it gets down to about 40 or so and the weather predicts it may get down to the 30's the next couple of nights.....the day temps is in the 50's and may get to the low 60 the next few days

will they be ok moved out to the green house?

thanks

Hi there
I have a small greenhouse, and the temp I keep just slightly above freezing.
I would say it gets down to farenheit about 38 at night or so.
I have about 45 tomato plants and the same number of peppers.
I have just replanted several of the plants that are starting to get a bit root bound, in larger pots, they are just thriving.
I think that your plants will do well in the greenhouse as long as they do not freeze

my experience with tomatoes is that you just do not want them to freeze
So if your greenhouse is not freezing at night then they should be fine.
Not sure how cold it is there, but here I have a small heater in my greenhouse just to take the edge off on cold nights, it seems to keep all my plants going.
I have just put my worms out there so am keeping it warmer Wink

Yes, on accident (pinching off the top). In the frigid PNW it set the poor thing way back....but it did get bushy (D, silvery fir)

Here in the Uk that is the normal way to get all the tomaotes to ripen as big fruits inthe season ..if you leave the plant to keep on growing it will ,for it is after all a vine plant , the cold weather slows gowth then kills it.

Re the plants in a cold green house .. you could try covering the plants with a microfibre fleece just as the sun goes down ..take it down onto the floor so there will be no draughts of cold air .Remove the fleece inthe morning if it is not going to be a frosty day.

You could also put a mains voltage light bulb & fitting or a table lamp out on a cable into the green house .. using a 40 watt bulb it shoud keep frost off by several degrees.

I have one of the massive 6 inch diameter candles ( garage sale for pennies ) about a foot high in my greenhouse . I've had to light it these last three nights as the forecasts have indicated snow and frost . .. so far on my max / min thermometer the night temp inside the glasshouse has not dropped below 42 oF.

thank you all for the advice Very Happy

we have three pots of these volunteers growing....so im going to try three differnt methods:

1. put one of my big boys out into the green house......which is really a small green house (the shelf kind) inside of a little bigger one....so he will be in double coverage

2. cut off the tops of a second tomato which really has two growing together in one pot in hopes it will bush out

3. third guy is not as tall as the others and he will stay inside under the lights and im going to pinch off any flowers he gets to early

i will keep ya posted and share pics......let hope they all work out and we get ton's of yummy little yellow cherry tomatoes Very Happy

hugs

rose.....who has waaaaay to many tomato seedlings going.....hubby was up late last night moving shelves and lights for these babies What a Face

Garden decorations are actually the outside image of your house from the inside, when you look the house and the outdoor decorations are beautiful it will probably put a question in your mind about the inside of the house. That is why making the garden decorations is important as making the interior of the house. There are many ways to create beautiful and unique garden decorations of your own theme, you can have a theme if there is no occasion for now, and you can try the English garden decorations.
