Help With Worm Bin!

I messed up and just thru in some lettuce leaves that looked bad, directly from the garden. There must have been a snail on the lettuce, which are now having babies. Is there anything I can do? Will they hurt my worms? I've been removing as I find them. They like to get on the inside of the lid. Here is a pic. Jo

If you don't want them, pick them out.

I found a snail living in the leg of my worm farm. I wondered where the slugs were coming from...sliding through the holes!

Lots of things will live with your worms...ants, flies, etc. Nothing to be alarmed by.

I don't like slugs and snails (unless cooked with garlic in oil!), so I throw mine over the wall into a wildscape.

Heavens, I was only kidding! I don't do escargo, but love the pastries, french fries, do them if the cholestral is ok.

I wonder how many of those little snails (maybe 1/8 in.) would it take to make a spoonful? Do you eat the shells too?

Not intending to hijack the tread, but also having a serious, or at least nasty problem with my squirmies. Opened up the Worm Factory lid the other day, to add some freshly trimmed greens. Upon doing so, I was greeted by some freaky form of moss, mildue, something, that is white and looks like polyester batting used for crafting, or cotton balls. There are several clumps or growths, the size of decent cucumbers or banana's.

A much smaller amount had appeared before, about three weeks prior, the size and color of cotton balls. I cleaned out all I could see, put in fresh food and added dry shredded paper over the top. Last time I had misted it before closing, thinking they needed some water. This time, no aditional water and had scrubbed out the plastic lid, but its back, and with a vengance.

The good news is, there's no funky odor, just smells earthy when opened, or like great soil or compost. Any ideas....please?

Reading so many different sources I can't pinpoint which one said the following - you simply stir up the mold to break up those fine threads and/or clean it out as you did. Moisture comes from several sources: It is a by product of food scraps breaking down, wet bedding, and worm casts. Topping off the bed with fresh newspapers about every 3 weeks will help collect excess moisture.

I live on a farm, so big open spaces. I thought that I saw trash, plastic bags, all over the yard. When I went out to check, It was fine webs, square, very neatly,all over the place. I didn't find any spiders. We have have had lots of rain lately. I just ran my foot thru them, the sun came out, and all was well. Just too wet.

I have wide open space here too and somewhere I have a picture of the same thing you are describing in the front of my property. I had to laugh when a gov't conspiracy theorist told me it was the gov't secretly spraying crap in the middle of the night. I had a good laugh over that one.

I'm affraid for the health of my worms, thinking this white stuff could be toxic, but even with fungus (or whatever this is) growing under their roof, they don't get visits from the neighbor in his aluminum hat (blocking out the gamma rays), sharing conspiracies, and the delusions. Next time he's by, maybe being a good neighbor, you could explain that the movie, Soylent Green was based on fiction.
