Newb LMAO
Well my day started out great. Got my hubby to go with me to pick up my supplies for my Mel's Mix. I had calculated all what I need right here on the forum so I was good to go We get home started mixing and I am thinking... that doesn't look like a lot. I have 6 3x6 foot boxes ( built them last year) So we take out the old soil to give us room for six inches. hmmm WTH I only calculated enough for 1 box Lmao ... Annnnd the peat moss was compacted so I have to take it all out and add more compost and V to it. Should be fun... And here I am telling my husband how little this costs and how easy it is I never should be allowed to do math.

Lol. Zomo, sounds like you where having a Rooster moment
At least you are finding your mistakes now when they are (fairly) easy to correct. This year is the hard part, but just think in the future all you will have to add is a bit of fresh compost.

Re: Newb LMAO
Oh Zomo I can SOOOOO relate.
I brought up the handy dandy Mel's Mix Calculator for a BIG school project I'll be working on next month.
Instead of looking at the number for "each ingredient" I looked at the "each compost type". Thankfully I pulled my head out of my behind before I ordered a fraction of what we needed.
We will be doing (5) 4' x 8' beds and (2) 3' x 12' beds. They want them to be filled with 10" of growing medium in 12" beds. (I'm still trying to convince them that this is overkill, but hey, if they want to mix up that much . . . )
It sure would have been embarrassing. After reading your post I think I'll check it out AGAIN! THANKFULLY I have a one-stop source for blended compost which is of course the most difficult part to figure out.

I have seen women looking at jewelry ads with a misty eye and one hand resting on the heart, and I only know what they're feeling because that's how I read the seed catalogs in January - Barbara Kingsolver - Animal, Vegetable, Miracle
