Stringer Nursery in Tulsa, OK = COMPLETE SOURCE!
OMG everyone! Just had a wonderful phone conversation with Stringer Nursery in Tulsa, OK. They are listed in the vermiculite database. They have everything you need to put your MM together AND they have bagged Mel's Mix.
After pricing everything, we've decided to mix our own at half the price of the bagged Mel's Mix. With 14 boxes to fill, we HAVE to mix our own. LOL! In case anyone else is searching for sources and prices, here are the breakdowns:
Comparing all bagged Mel's Mix in 14 4x4x1 boxes to mixing our own:
112 2cf bags x 20.27 = $2270.24
Mixing our own = $984.87
Still a wad of money for our "small" garden but, hopefully, worth it.
Mel's Mix | 2 cf | 20.27 |
Vermiculite Coarse Grade | 4 cf | 24.88 |
Peat Moss Compressed Bales | 3.9 cf | 13.82 |
Chicken Manure Compost Pure | 1 cf | 4.63 |
Cow Manure Compost Pure | 1 cf | 4.63 |
Mushroom Compost | 1 cf | 3.69 |
Nature's Blend Compost | 1 cf | 6.45 |
Flower Bed Blend Compost | 1 cf | 5.53 |
Cotton Burr Compost (Chunkier) | 2 cf | 5.53 |
112 2cf bags x 20.27 = $2270.24
Mixing our own = $984.87
Still a wad of money for our "small" garden but, hopefully, worth it.

Will definitely post pictures of our little garden
Pictures are coming, for sure! We won't be in off the road until April 2 so it won't be until then though. I want to photo journal this whole grand experiment! We have a garden plot that is 100' x 100'. The 14 boxes are going in there and then we'll plant all the vining crops in the existing soil. Cucumbers, watermelons, canteloupes, squash and potatoes are going in the ground. Please pray for them!
