did i wait to long to plant onion transplant sets
we bought some walla walla onion transplants about 50 of them that came in a bundle....they were wrap with a rubber band and dry....but yet still green.....
well our weather has been so yucky that its taken longer to get them in...now the green parts are drying up brown.....are they still going to be ok to plant?....we have had them for a couple weeks now....

Take the rubber band off and stick the whole bundle of roots in a glass or a bucket of water so the roots get a good drink. They will hopefully perk up.

FamilyGardening, just give them a long drink, don't leave them in the water toooooooo long like I did last year.

I've had the same kind of problem. Although mine (also walla walla) are already in the ground. The green tops are all yellowing. It started after the hot desert winds a few weeks ago. Everyone in the plot that has onions look that way.
Anyone know what causes it?
Also, do onions like the soil a bit dry? Instructions say "when you water the rest of the garden, water the onions. I've got shallots and garlics in the same area.
