Thinning Swiss Chard?

I seem to have multiple stems coming from each chard seed. Am I supposed to trim some of them back or let them all grow?

Chard grows multiple stems at once. Here's a good picture.

I harvest the outer ones and leave the smallest inner ones. You can harvest from the same plant the entire season.

And then some. I'm still harvesting some I planted last year this time. And it was pretty pitiful at the end of the summer.
