I was out in the yard just a few minutes ago. I could smell this really bad poop smell. I couldnt find where it was coming from. Bad of me but I thought it was coming from the neighbors yard Embarassed so I was looking at my future garden area and there was places where it had been dug up. I was thinking maybe the kids but they have not been in the yard for a few days. Then I found it. Shocked it looked like a small maybe med sized dog poop but very black and greasy looking poop. It was just foul smelling affraid

what do I do now. I do not want my garden to become a buffet for this critter any help is great

No kidding, Chopper was right on 2 accounts. Fence or cage. Or motion sensored water http://www.contech-inc.com/products/scarecrow/. There are better prices elswhere but this tells you about it. Also there have been several forum users that it has worked for, do a search.

"...I thought it was coming from the neighbors yard.."

I laughed so hard when I read that. My suggestion is to look on page 70 of the ANSFG book. If you built that it will probably do the trick. The only change that I would make is to have it large enough to rest on the ground. The one in the book rests right on top of the garden and can be pushed over by a bigger animal. You might be able to see what I'm talking about if you go to my site. Simply go to Gallery-1, page 2, and it's the second picture. It's on the right hand side just before the bag of leaves. In the picture it is covering a 3X3' box and sits right on the ground. They are made easily, they are light and cheap to put together. I suppose you can make it more heavy duty if you'd like...just a thought...

Maybe Fish and Game can ID the scat so you know what you are actually dealing with... Just a thought.

@ Snibb my neighbors have a few pitbulls in thier yard that they have caged. and i have smelled it before so I wasnt sure where it was coming from No.. I am going to keep an eye out and see what turns up. I may have to build somthing to cover but that will only work for a short time. this area was going to have trelis around it

I had raccoons get my corn and sw. potatoes in my row garden. I 'read' somewhere that they would not cross or mess with gardens that had vining squash. I planted summer squash all around the edge of my SFG, no problems with deer or raccons.

But, if the scat smells real bad, call/take to your wildlife person for ID! You may have a bobcat. I've had 1 in the area here, they probably won't bother your garden but may get a small dog if out at night.
