Hello! I just began gardening this past October in a table top bed (8' x 2') and am expanding my garden in the next month. I live in the Mojave High Desert of CA and enjoy very high winds and crazy temperature changes.

This year I want to grow enough veggies for my family of 5, which I am finding out is an serious investment of materials as everything needs to be on table tops (I can't bend over or kneel since I have RA). Oh, and I want to start asparagus and strawberries.

Anyway, it's nice to "meet" everyone!

Best,
April

High Desert Hello 654548 April

Did you build and fill your Table Top using methods from ALL NEW SQUARE FOOT GARDENING by Mel Bartholomew? Hope you have had a chance to read the book as it is full of great and easy methods for growing.

I also have Table Tops, 3 - 4X4's at the moment. Waiting on DH to build more. I really appreciate being able to garden without bending over. Prior gardens, on the ground and before ANSFG, were just do difficult for me to maintain.

I also live in an area with very high winds but we have very cool summers so it is difficult to grow many of the warm weather loving crops I crave.

Good Luck and please keep us posted on your progress with new TT's. Once you have completed your first seven days as a member, we hope you will share photos of your garden.

Again, Welcome!

Thank you, Furbalsmom, with the warm welcome! I had heard about squarefoot gardening so I did some research, including reading the site, and built our first box (well, my hubby did most of the building!).

I think I'll do a better job this time around now that I've read the whole book!

Hi Arpil! Sounds like we are neighbors. Seems we are always fighting the elements here....both hot AND cold! I've been successful in years past growing veggies. This will be my first year with the SFG method. Here's hoping for a wonderful growing season!! glad you\'re here
