Squirrels Digging Up My SFG!
As I was preparing a square for planting a week or two ago, my trowel bounced on something hard, about 4" beneath the surface. I reached into the Mel'x Mix and pulled out.... A green pine cone!
Subsequent excavations revealed three more. Yes, after a long hiatus, the squirrels have returned to my yard, providing endless stimulation for my cats.
Could this be some sort of harbinger of a cold winter?

Re: Squirrels Digging Up My SFG!
I don't know about a cold winter, but the squirrels have virtually taken over my beds as their personal burying site. At one time there were actually carrots, beets, kholrabi, rutabagas, and onions in some of those squares. Now, I only have broccoli, mustard (what's left), sugar snap peas, and brussel sprouts. All three of my boxes are pock marked where they've dug so much. Unfortunately finances prohibited any critter protection this fall. Hopefully next fall, I'll have defenses ready.

How about critter "prevention"? Rat traps are cheap enough
