in a area that don't get snow, but hard cold days , about 34 degrees, and usually lasting 24-48 hrs, do you cover the onion plants?

we hit 21 degrees  last night. I covered the onions. is anyone out there with weather like Dallas, TX can share what they do for growing onions in the fall into the winter?

We have similar weather to Dallas in the winter.  I also have covered my onions when it gets below 25 degrees.  I have heard that the low temperatures can injure the leaves but they will come back.  But my theory is that we need all the leaves to successfully grow the onions.  So I don't really know but I always err on the side of covering something rather than leaving them exposed t o the elements.
