I did manage to pull out a weed and some grass the other day, and believe me, I'm still paying for that and other garden efforts.

I also added some homemade, screened compost, but I need to sift a bit more.  The total probably won't come to 6", though.  Should I add some leaf mold?  We should be getting a couple of warmer days, plus abundant rain, later this week.

Moldy leaves or finished leaf mold? Garlic is an over-winter crop that I don't see why you couldn't.

Anyone else?

Finished leaf mold from the bottom of a small pile that had been in place for a couple of years.

How cold does it get there, Donna?  I mean if it’s warm and the days are long enough it might grow the whole time…here it just puts down roots.

Supposedly, I'm in Zone 6b.  Most gardeners here plan and plant for zones 4-5.  The lowest temps I've seen here were -25F in 2013, although it rarely goes below -10 in recent years.

I'm primarily concerned that the ground may freeze.  It was pretty firm the other day.

I am no expert (see my questions in this thread lol) I am in CT and we had some warm days so I put them in and covered them with leaves.

What could it hurt to try?  I think they just need a little warmth to get acclimated and will pop up in the spring/late winter.

Same as planting flower bulbs yes?

I'm in Zone 9AB.  I've always planted in October but this year I'm trying an experiment.  Half now and half in late January per the local Master Gardeners planting guide.  I love MM!
