crop rotation - Small holes on fall crop seedlings Empty Small holes on fall crop seedlings

Post  Robbomb116 Fri Sep 02, 2016 8:41 am

I've noticed some small holes on a lot of my seedlings.   Most of the bok choy, the kale,  and some radishes and arugula have these small holes.   Any idea what could be causing them?

I have the bed covered with tulle, but the tulle is just resting on the plants,  not supported on pvc or anything.  Is that the wing easy to do it / could that have contributed to this?

My guess is rolly polly/sow bug. Most of my radish seedlings were eaten. Time to sprinkle Sluggo Plus.

A coworker of mine thought it might be flee beetles a s recommended diatomaceous earth.  Could I do this sluggo plus and the diatomaceous earth to cover all my bases?  Or would that be over kill?  I don't want to put more than is necessary on my plants, but I want the pests to stop eating them!

I would say you could do that. See if anyone else has comments. I sprinkled SP in the amended bed as they were eating my radishes.

Found the culprit in the act! Teeny tiny yellowish green caterpillars... I picked all of them off and squished them.

They were so small.   Like maybe a 1/4" long.  7mm thick, like the mechanical pencil lead haha

A solid cover of tulle will keep the butterfly off the plants.  I swear, that if there is one little gap, she will find it!  https://squarefoot.forumotion.com/t11715-bacillus-thuringiensis-bt?highlight=bacillus

True that! I found two on two separate occasions flying around under my cover this summer. The only way she would have gotten in was when a strong wind blew open a little tiny gap just a smidge. Mad  grrrrrr...
