That's ok, aerogrow doesn't actually tell you what variety they are Smile

I just do a lot of researching! I can't help myself with gardening!

Aerogardens are loads of fun.

The six slot one I have is the same model as Mschaef's, and I have the smaller 3 slot one.

It is nice having fresh tomatoes, and herbs too, in the middle of winter.

I was disappointed in the 36 pod seed starter kit, which basically is a Styrofoam cover with 36 holes punched in it. Had I know that I would have made my own and saved 30 bucks.

. I will try to get a picture to post later, its so exciting with the cold weather we are having to know in a few weeks ill have lots of fresh tomatoes.

After looking at these pictures, I'm starting to regret boxing up my AeroGarden for storage now that my plants are ready to go out to the garden. Maybe I should unbox it and start the herb set that came with it.

Milt48 - AeroGarden just came out with a new seed starting system for the AeroGarden and it's plastic. Just ordered one on Friday and can't wait to use it.

I hope you don't mind Mshaef, but I thought I'd show some pics of my aerogarden too Smile

I was so envious of your setup that I bought a bigger garden too, so now I have the big one and the little one.

This is my garden at 16 days. The big one has the heirloom lettuce seeds in it, and the little garden has a Tiny Tim tomato I started from some seeds I bought plus another lettuce pod.

The tomato is actually only about a week old and just germinated, so it's still tiny. That lettuce in the back is really slow growing. It's supposedly deer tongue. Does that variety just grow slowly?

Here is a picture of mine I just took. If you look closely at the tomatoes you can see some tiny green tomatoes.

Last week in the middle of my crazy move, my tomatoes decided to ripen. Now they are all blushing like crazy and turning even quicker. A couple of year ago I decided to try to change my taste buds. I used to hate fresh tomatoes but I have slowly started adding fresh ones to my palette. Well I ate the first ripe one from my aero gardens and I think I successfully change my buds. Yum... now to convince my 8 year old that all the tomatoes aren't for him anymore.

I just removed the herbs from my aerogarden and replanted them with lettuce. I see a few peeking out so time will tell. I had my herb garden on the only place I could find to put it. Which unfortunately was right near a heater vent. I don't think it liked the heat blowing on it.

The roots were massive. Just a warning, if you clean out the garden, watch out for the little filter on the water pump getting caught in the roots as you pull them out. I had to go digging in my garbage can and sifting thru all the roots until I found the little filter.

except I was digging in my compost for that darn filter rather than my garbage. Fortunately it was still near the top...

I wanted to add, if a plant dies early or you otherwise have a partially 'used' pod in your aerogarden, I was successful last year in getting cuttings to root and grow by removing the lowest leaves and sticking the stem down into a pod. I grew mint and rau ram (Vietnamese coriander=Persicaria odorata) that way. Neither was particularly successful due to an aphid infestation -- but they did root and grow. Marjoram, oregano, thyme, savory, lemon balm would probably work, too, if you can find a friend willing to share. For me, the basil pods work best in the aerogarden. I've had germination or survival issues with everything else. This year I plan on giving the mints a head start, before putting the basil pods in, and see if that helps.

A new adventure begins for me this evening. I setup my Aerogarden Ultra with seven types of herbs.

Thai Basil - height tall - germinates in 4 to 7 days
Mint - height medium - germinates in 6 to 10 days
Dill - height tall - germinates in 8 to 21 days
Genovese Basil - height tall - germinates in 6 to 12 days
Curly Parsley - height short - germinates in 8 to 21 days
Thyme - height short - germinates in 7 to 14 days
Chives - height short - germinates in 8 to 21 days

Items 1 to 4 are in the back row and items 5 to 7 are in the front row. The Aerogarden is currently in my basement workshop which is where I also have my grow lights for starting new plants in the Spring.

I may have to look into this Aerogarden Seed Starting System which will fit my Aerogarden Ultra. Looks like a nice compact way to start seeds in the Spring for later planting outside. It can start up to 50 plants. But like everything else Aerogarden it is quite expensive. It's $40 Canadian from Amazon Canada (free shipping) and even more expensive (about $60 Cdn? with shipping) if purchased from Aerogarden's website in the USA.
