Planted these in middle of Oct. 4 to a square, I have been doing 9 to a square, however I want to see how 4 does.
Tomorrow, I'll be covering with straw for a winter coat....

Re: garlic peeking through top.
Mine look similar to your, jimmcee, just poking through. They are now covered with several inches of shredded leaves so I am looking forward to next spring when I will actually have something already started.
I did the same last year, and had a great crop. This time planted 120 of the largest so expect even better results this year.
Some of my harvest this year will be given as Christmas gifts to two neighbours who I know love garlic to eat but do not have time to grow them as they all work and have children to raise. Even though we know it does not take too much to build a 4 x 4, plant it and leave it. Maybe I will get them to do it some time next year.
I have managed to get another neighbour to plant some this fall, ready to harvest next year so I am making a little progress.

Planted mine Nov 1 and already up about 6 in. Under plastic hoop house or a remay covering. Expecting first frost tonight.
