February 4th, 2012:

After a LOT of work... 7398904192_e1902cd2a6

April 22nd, the day it all started:

After a LOT of work... 295157_10150700118008339_1773262187_n

Today:

After a LOT of work... 7398865840_6ab112fb2f

After a LOT of work... 7398865058_b5d22d9223

After a LOT of work... 7398864112_be4e1dcf7d

There's still lots more to do - tomatoes to plant and find homes for, the fence needs to be electrified, not all of the mulch is down, the irrigation system needs to be refined... but I've already harvested a square of radishes, the zucchini has a baby that'll be ready in a couple of days, the tomatoes are producing like crazy, the pumpkin flowered for the first time today, the strawberries have tons of runners, and I'm feeling really proud. Smile

Haha yeah, I just didn't like it being on the soil. Smile

Some day I'll expand the beds to 4x8 (or at least one of them). I do like having some of the bigger plants, like the zucchini and pumpkin, in their own tubs so they don't overtake the SFG beds.

WOW. What a great use of space. That is a very content looking zucchini sitting there on its burlap mat. I like seeing the watering system in place. I have been using a drip irrigation system for 2 years now and really like the efficiency and ease of watering.

What are the bins that your zucchini and other plants are in? The black ones? Anything special or just something that would work well for the job?

Happy gardening.

Happy gardening.

Thank you! Smile Those are cement mixing tubs that can be found in the construction area at Lowe's or Home Depot. My local Lowe's also carries ones that are a bit larger and deeper (the sides are not as sloped) but I found these first. They're around $13 and seem to be working well so far (with lots of holes drilled for drainage). I have 3 with the zucchini, strawberries, and a pumpkin. We've talked about making tabletop frames for them at some point.

Read about the mixing tubs on the forum. When I decided to plant sweet potatos, I was all out of bed space so I picked one up.

After a LOT of work... Dscn0933

As you can see I made it a tabletop by setting on extra rubbermaid bins to keep away from the rabbits.
