Hi Everyone! I'm a master gardener and just now found this forum. I'm always excited to meet other gardeners and learn new things, so I can't wait to "dig in" to this forum. We've had a really mild winter so far and I'm still harvesting greens from my garden. I've been planning for spring and just got some seeds in the mail from the Seed Savers Exchange that I ordered a while back. I look forward to meeting you all!

Hey Debbie:

Hello from South Carolina (near CLT, NC) 396615 to the Forum. Not sure if you've had the chance to read the All New Square Foot Gardening book yet, but it's PRICELESS.

We've had a fairly mild winter here too and I have been chomping at the bit to plant.

No, I haven't read the book, but I'll take a look at it. I have the old one.

Hello from South Carolina (near CLT, NC) 654548 Garden Club Gal

Glad to hear you will check out the ALL NEW SQUARE FOOT GARDENING book, (published 2006) as it is really different from the original Square Foot Gardening book.

I started out using the original method, and have to say, double digging to loosen the soil and add your amendments was really hard work.

The ALL NEW SFG method is much easier to create Mel's Mix, next to no weeds, and a lot less work.

Keep in touch.

We do have a couple of Master Gardener's in our group from various states and appreciate their help especially when dealing with pests.

Hi Debbie,

We are practically neighbors. Hope to see you around here more often. Are you planning on building SFG beds for this spring? You have some good advice on getting the new book. It makes everything a breeze.

Check out our regional forum here,

https://squarefoot.forumotion.com/f9-middle-south

You 'll find some "sticky" posts at the top which will give you some more local info but seeing as you are a master gardener, you'll be able to hit the ground running.

I too overwinter and have tons of spinach, kale and carrots going. I took down the hoop tunnel as it is just been too mild here. Check out some of my videos too for perhaps a few ideas.

See you soon Very Happy

Thanks for letting me know. Yes, I do plan on building some frames for beds this spring. I've been doing raised bed gardening w/o frames but I've been working in the PAR garden and think I'll build at least a couple of beds. I brought home some asparagus crowns this week and will build a bed for them to begin with.
