We generally recommend watering one's compost pile, as it boosts the composting process. A lot of folks aren't even comfortable with that. We won't tell them your secret to super duper spinach.

Oh so THATS what I am doing wrong with my compost. I gather that would warm up the compost this time of year too

Re: High Powered Nitrogen
In the manure I've been collecting of late the bedding side of things has been soaked well & truly in animal urine but it's not stopped me from topping it up for I've been " straining the greens " via a bucket at 20 parts water to 1 on the compost heap for many years.

It's my understanding that any addition of nitrogen content will act as a catalyst to improve the process.

Re: High Powered Nitrogen
They are domesticated. They're actually a heritage breed called Bourbon Red. Domesticated turkey don't breed and produce as many fertile eggs these days. Or raise their young. Most have been bred to be meat birds. The bourbons are one that will produce fertile eggs and raise their young, and as a bonus, they are one of the best tasting turkey's you can raise and they are really pretty birds if you just want them as pets.
I see, I think you meant to quote Nancy.

Thanks for explaining my attempt at a joke boffer... I assumed NR was talking about alcohol from the emoticon. I did learn something new today - who knew there was a turkey breed called Bourbon red...
