Hi everyone
New here, just moved from coastal Oregon a year ago to central British Columbia.
Had a very productive garden last year, and am really looking forward to even more this year. It was cold in summer on the Oregon coast, and so was never very successful with gardening, and here it is cold in the winter, but really hot in summer.
I have started spinach in flats with the hope of having some in pots over the winter.

Just learning about the forum

Living on the Oregon Coast, I can appreciate how difficult it is growing warm weather plants in a cool weather climate.

Are you currently using the SFG method in Mel Bartholmew's ALL NEW SQUARE FOOT GARDENING? If not, please pick up the book (or borrow from a library) it is full of so much information that can make your gardening easier.

If you already use the SFG method, wonderful!

As soon as you are able (I think 7 days for new members) post some pictures, we would love to see your success from last year.

Please feel free to browse around the various forums, Regional and General. I am sure there is information you will find helpful.

Keep us posted on your progress.

Hello from British Columbia Empty sfg

Post  GWN 1/14/2012, 5:18 pm

I have read John Jeavons book," how to grow more vegetables", and spent last year attempting to achieve as much in an area as I could.
I also intend to read the SFG book, but will need to find it first.
I have some great pictures.
My big issue is that I am trying to overwinter artichokes, and have them covered with straw and tarps, and am just dying to peak underneath to see how they are doing Very Happy

Lucky, you, to have it hot in the summer! Tomatoes will do better there, I take it?

What did you grow last summer that was productive? I'd love to know the differences between OR and BC.

BTW, welcome!

Well I had two long raised beds, for tomatoes and just grew tons of them, heirlooms, that many of them were about 2 lbs.
2 raised beds for peppers, and also had a huge crop, spinach in another bed, beans in another. I am attempting to live off of the crop as much as possible.
Potatoes did poorly, as did the rhubarb, beets did OK. I am hoping to work on this for this next year.
I will post photos of the tomatoes ..
