Re: 2012 garden started
Hummm I start with a greenhouse I'm a couple hours north of you
I'm planting more tomatoe from seed, and melons this year didn't do so well last year it was too hot because I was late finding what I wanted?????
like I said in my other post I've started peppers and garlic chives.
after the 20th I'm planning to plant a couple 100 ft rows of Potates(I've got some growing in the compost bins already so I'm going to use row covers a go ahead a try a couple rows of early potatoes)
three of my SFG Boxes here in the greenhouse and one is outside next to the garden area. I'll plant corn and sunflowers in it,#1 inside will get peppers and tomatoes,#2 will get tomatoes and cantaloupe,#3 will get 2tomatoes,2peppers,swiss chard,radish,lettuce,9garlic 16chives,16green onions
my big lot will get 34hills of watermelon
297 tomatos plants
436 polebeans &180 corn plants
232 carrots
14 cabbage(spring)
28 cucumbers
60 garlic plants(fall planting)
44 heads lettuce
14 melons
354 Onions green onionsets
32 pepper plants
68 potatos plants
44hills of pumkins
24 hills of squash
42 swiss chard plants (rabbits love it so do my laying hens:D )
the little lot will rest unless I need something else,I plan to build shade covers over 25x100 of this lot maybe go with a second one if needed? I rise worms and rabbits as well.
lots to get done from a wheelchair

Re: 2012 garden started
I'm starting a few " prize " onions this weekend in competition with a row soil gardener who is almost on the same lattitude to me but he's 100 miles to the East.
He does not get the coastal weather that I do , so as far as I'm concerned its all fair in love and war .
MM is to be one of my my secret weapons , the heated propagation bed is the second and worm tea is my third .

Try adding air to your tea if you don't already worked great with my rabbit poo tea, just drop the air stone into your bucket while making it I'll even leave it in for a day or two if I'm making a lot of tea:Pplantoid wrote:I'm starting a few " prize " onions this weekend in competition with a row soil gardener who is almost on the same lattitude to me but he's 100 miles to the East.

OK ..... Secret weapon No 3 .... the fish tank air pump to oxygenate and help convert the worm tea to a better mix ... :thank : Take three stars HillbillyBob and you can be ink monitor for next week
I actually have two air pumps that I used to use to oxygenate the salt water worms baits I used when sea angling .one mains voltage and one battery for sandeels.

Lots of veggies!
Hillbilly Bob,
I don't want to seem noisy, but, do you sell the veggies?
Have you been doing SFG for long?

You said you do all of this from a wheelchair? What? I mean holy guacamole. I can't do all of that if I cloned myself 3 times over. Talk about shock and awe. If you have pictures Please share.

Re: 2012 garden started
The Retirement Home is a great use for those surplus veggies. Our local Senior Center offers free lunches twice a week, an opportunity for a good meal and a chance to get together with neighbors. They also welcome excess produce. Often the produce is just placed on a counter and each person takes what they need and can use.HillbillyBob wrote:that's Okay little jo I haven't sold many, but the local nursing home(retirement home) is always happy to have some fresh veggies, they don't really care what I have somebody there will eat it ,I don't like waste, every thing needs to be used for something by somebody so if need be I can feed it to my girls (Rabbits, chickens, worms and bees they all make something for me so growing something for them never hurts btw this is mt second year with SFG &greenhouse with SFG garden racks but I've been playing in the dirt for over 1/2 a century now:face:
