Roll Call for Upper South - including all us Cincy folks
Yep, the Cincy folks are listed in the Upper South, who knew. LOL. So who are you and what are your plans for this month?
I started my broccoli this week which is 2 weeks earlier than last year, This wierd warming trend has me betting for an early spring and I want to be ready.
Where did you purchase your ingredients? Between Ohio Mulch, Lowe's and HD, I got all mine last year.

Kim,
Can you give me a rundown on where you got your ingredients? I need to start getting mine pulled together. I just finished a post in the Midwest forum asking this very question.

I answered your post in the N and C Midwest region. I'm finally looking at the map and really surprised Cincy is in the upper south region! But its just a small sliver of the Ohio border. You will find plenty of good overlap information in the North and Central Midwest region. The regions are loosely defined since the atmosphere doesn't read lowly earthling maps

I was shocked also.
Since your in Norwood,
HD has mushroom compost, peat, cow manure
Lowe's has peat, cow manure
Menards has cow manure, mushroom compost
I, personally, went to Ohio Mulch (not to far from Kings Island) and got my posy power, com-til and organnic hummus. MasonGardner clued me in that the feed store across the street from them has the vermiculite. (Ed's feed and seed, I belieive is the name)

its like looking at a map upside down. confusing........when i talk family in Ohio and Iowa , I always say UP North.==you know===almost to canada but now I guess if Canada is doing the zoning, then it would make since how Ohio would be the upper south. rofl.

haha! I've lived here my whole life and the only times I've ever been referred to as a southerner was when I went to New England! Of course, in Georgia, they say I'm a yankee, who knows!?

Manure
Hi All
If you’re looking for good composted manure I have a recommendation.
From Cincinnati it's about an hour south. The place is Triple J Farms (north of Georgetown). you can Google them.
They package in bags about 3 cu ft as I recall. The compost is screened to remove the big stuff.
I've found that most of the bag stuff at HD and Lowes is full of wood chips.
Now, Mel might come in here and censor me, but finding five different compost is a pain.
My mix is 60% Triple J, 40% my compost, then peat and vermiculite.
I add organic fertilizer prior to planting, it works for me.
If any one up your way is having trouble finding the big bags of vermiculite, they have it down here at Fayette Seed (Lexington) for around $20/bag. It'd call prior to making the trip down to make sure they had it.
