Need eggplant recommendation
I tried Ping Tung last year, which is long and narrow. I planted 2 plants & they just weren't very productive. I want to try another variety this year, suggestions please.
Re: Need eggplant recommendation
My eggplant seedlings never took off so I bought a six pack of Dusky Aubergine from my local Mom and Pop nursery. They were very productive and I plan on growing them again next year. In 2009 I grew the
Japanese Long Purple that were very productive. I would like to try Turkish Orange.

Re: Need eggplant recommendation
Is it wrong to want to grow a veggie just because it's beautiful? (I can't help but think of the commercial that says "Don't hate me because I'm beautiful!") Ha.
Baker's Seeds has a beautiful picture of Rosita eggplants http://rareseeds.com/rosita-eggplant.html and they just look so pretty, I want to try them!
I also think the white eggplants in this post are gorgeous. https://squarefoot.forumotion.com/t8618-white-eggplant-others?highlight=eggplant+white
I feel soooooooo shallow to be so charmed by good looks alone!

Thanks dixie & camp! I could only get Black Beauty transplants last spring - didn't think to order seeds in time. I'm doing like most of you - drooling over the seed catalogs and trying to decide amongst so many tempting choices! What a delightful quandary!

Black beauty was very prolific for me after the heat broke in Sept... No fruit during the 100 degree heat though

Re: Need eggplant recommendation
I just pulled my Black Beauties up, ashort. They were still blooming like heck - had gotten so big they were like small trees. I hated to pull them, but I think it has to be at least in the 60s at night for them to put on fruit. It doesn't consistently get that warm at night here now. They weren't putting on fruit any more.

Re: Need eggplant recommendation
It's not flashy looking but I've had good luck with Diamond Eggplant in a couple gardens. It's earned a spot in the spring garden: http://rareseeds.com/vegetables-d-o/eggplant/diamond-eggplant.html
A friend gave me Rosa Bianca eggplant seeds. The reviews look good too:

Re: Need eggplant recommendation
I already have Black diamond in my cart at Baker creek, along with WAY too many other things. I'll have to narrow it down some.
