Best Little Chicken House...
Came across an adorable (someday?) dream house Chicken Coop. Only I would add two outdoor runs. Let one side rest and grow new grass. Let the chickens play, scratch, and dust bathe on the other side. I wonder if there are any practical issues that anyone can spot that could be corrected in this dreaming stage?

Man, if everybody had a set up like that, the homeowner police and city officials would be hard pressed to deny chickens in the back yard.

Re: Best Little Chicken House...
Wow! That is a nicer house than what I live in. Wonder what it costs to build? The simple little house my guys built pushed past $2,000. Other than worrying about cost, I would add a roof to the run if I was building that beauty in my back yard. Chickens can handle really cold weather but they don't do well getting wet. Did I see any outdoor perches in the run? My girls use theirs all the time.
When you only have 4 hens (that is how many I keep) that you have hand raised they are really easy to handle. We went with 4x8 gardens with a portable "tractor" that fit into those gardens. They become our chickens "2nd run". We got the idea from Patti Moreno, the "Garden Girl" who does the monthly videos with Mel B on what you can be doing in the SFG during different months.
Garden Girl Chicken Tractor
We take time to let them graze our little back yard at the end of the day when we walk them back to the chicken run in the evening.
Debs. . . .have fun dreaming, I think you will be an awesome chicken momma!

Re: Best Little Chicken House...
Been enjoying Everyone's comments.
The cost to build, even doing it ourselves, would be crazy for just 4 hens but it would be so neat to look at. I agree the roof of the run would need something for rain and probably shade I guess too. Outdoor perches, good point! I read the the fencing should be sunk into the ground from digging predators. The window in the front might need to be reinforced from predators perhaps too. I'm still looking into chicken tractors too. Can't think about how many eggs it would take to break even. Wonder how many windows it would take around the other sides to ensure adequate ventilation too, hmm....well, its a dream house and like they say....dream on

I'm guessing that it is a re-purposed structure. Maybe originally it was a kid's playhouse, or a getaway for an artist type, or ....?
Re: Best Little Chicken House...
The backstory as I recall, is the wife dreamed up the house for the chickens and the husband drew up the plans. While he was building it he passed away. The neighbors finished it for the wife.

Aw, thanks! Yes, tractors may be the way to go. I envy you for already having the little feather heads and being an awesome chicken momma yourself
