Boy, oh boy, I did not understand that youtube video! I finally figured out it was a wicking system, but he kept saying "never water again" and I couldn't understand how the water was supposed to get in the gutters. Luckily for dimwits like me, he posted a couple of follow up videos.
In one, he shows you the buckets full of his potting medium and he lifts one up so you can see the net cup full of potting medium that sits down in the water. In another, he shows you the float at the end of one of the gutters that's hooked up to the hose. Pretty nifty!

I didn't understand it either until I looked at the other videos.

I remember that thread, camprn! I'd forgotten about it. I really want to do something new and exciting with gardening this year. It seems I have gardening ADD so I need to mix it up to stay interested.

Sorry about that, I should have included a heads-up that it wasn't very clearly explained. I'd watched a couple of them before I decided to post. I was glutting myself on new gardening ideas to get me through the winter.

Tomorrow afternoon my husband is picking up some half round and some round guttering that I found for free on craigslist! I'm so excited! *jumping up and down clapping like a child*
