One of my sons saw some arrowheads someplace and decided to look at how they were made on the internet. He watched video after video and figured he was going to try his hand at making his own. Long story short, he and I have taken on the hobby of "knapping". Here is our first somewhat successful attempt at making something that even closely resembles an arrowhead.
Made from black obsidian:

Camprn,

Great video!

Since I moved into my house here in Oregon last summer, I've never been bothered by the clover, and I wondered why, other than seeing the bees happily grazing.

One of my neighbors has a pretty attractive lawn, but they use **ROUNDUP** and chemical fertilizers on it. Nary a clover blossom can be found.

Well, you guessed it: My lawn currently is greener than hers!

All day a tree trimming crew was cutting down a 60' tree around the corner from me.  This tree has been growing in a postage size back yard for probably 22+ years.  It didn't dawn on me until they were almost done that maybe they would be shredding the branches, duh!  So I walked around the corner and asked and was told that they had 1/3 of a load of the mulch that I could have for free!  It was delivered to me and when they are in the area again, they will bring me more!  They had already hauled off two full loads of mulch before my brain put two and two together and realized this is exactly what I was wanting and I don't have to make a phone call!  This pile is over 3 feet tall and about 10-12 feet wide and long.  Isn't it purty!

And, Tricia, just wait until it sits a bit, that stuff gets hot enough to steam!  I've used 2-3/4 piles of chips like yours, and that I'm moving this year is riddled with mycelium from the dog vomit fungus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuligo_septica) that showed up on the surface of the second pile.  Let us know what kind of fungus colonizes your chip pile.  Nonna

Just the name grossed me out, then I clicked on the link and got further grossed out!  The article said this stuff can even grow on plants!  The article said it moves!  It makes me think of the movie The Blob!  Is this dog vomit fungus something that will eventually be a good thing or is it something that I don't want around?  I read it can give a person asthma if they are suseptible to it.  Should I spread out the pile to dry it out faster?  Or should I just get a big bon fire going?

This is the second time I've found dog vomit fungus (or as it's sometimes called: slime mold) in my garden.  First time, it grew on hay bales that made up my hay bale SFG last year.  Living in Western Oregon, where there are mushrooms literally everywhere, another fungus is just another fungus.  It may not be something that likes your area.  Truly, I can't see where it hurts anything, and it's a great conversation starter, right?  Especially with teens.  Nonna
