Whoever took the pictures for the auction must be a fisherman - they can make a pan fish look like a tuna!

There is a local auction house that has a couple online auctions every month. I was quite pleased to bid on, and win, a Crimson Queen Japanese Maple tree. I hooked up my cargo trailer because I didn't think it would fit in either of my trucks easily without damaging it. On the way to pick it up, I was worried about whether my buddy and I could pick it up to load it. Fortunately, there were employees at the store to help with loading. When I got home, I just had to take a couple pictures to show everyone.

The joke's on me! The auction picture made the tree look real big!
So, I still got a good deal, but it wasn't the steal that I thought it was!
Nice plant boffer

Too funny boffer! It reminds me of the time I hurt my back trying to pick up a barbell with a lot of weight on it. I was thrown off balance because it was a fake and very light! It was made of styrofoam or something similar.

Senseless Banter...
i am 64 and SFG for many years. I love to cook and everybody seems to love my cooking. Every Sunday I cook big dinners and i always have 4-5 guests for dinner. Most of my guests are 25 to 35 years old. But what amazes me is they know nothing about where their food comes from. I make everything from scratch, they only know how to cook if it comes from a box or can. Of course I make all my sauces from what I get from my garden. They love my red sauce I used on my pasta and my homemade salsa. But I tried to give them fresh tomatoes to take home and they say no, that they do not like tomatoes. I realize they have no idea I use tomatoes to make the stuff they love. I am not putting them down, but some of them are wanting me to show them how to cook and I have agreed. I think they are going to be surprised on what cooking from scratch means.

I think you're going to have fun!
But I can't blame them for not liking tomatoes if all they've ever eaten is from the grocery store? Hopefully you'll change the minds of a few!

i have been on cloud nine since i found this beauty growing she is an heirloom brandywine.....and if we get enough heat....she may even turn red.... (or pink...cause i think she maybe a pink brandywine)......and be lunch one of these days.... ....first time growing an heirloom.....
i think its sad that people who only get their food from the store only see a tomato as being perfect, red and round....im thrilled that my girl has curves!!!

Re: Senseless Banter...
I have very sad news about one of the wonderful Decorah eaglets tonight. D-12 was found dead at the base of a power line pole. I'm gutted.

The bright side of this sad end for D-12 is that the power company is actively engaged in fixing the problem that is found on more power poles and hopefully there will be fewer electrocutions of birds.

A fascinating documentary about recycling elements, compost, the circle of life and of all things, slime mold and computers. Worth a watch.

Re: Senseless Banter...
To commemorate her 69th birthday, actress/vocalist Julie Andrews made a special appearance at Manhattan's Radio City Music Hall for the benefit of the AARP. One of the musical numbers she performed was "My Favorite Things" from the legendary movie "Sound Of Music." However, the lyrics of the song were deliberately changed for the entertainment of her "blue hair" audience. Here are the lyrics she recited:
Maalox and nose drops and needles for knitting,
Walkers and handrails and new dental fittings,
Bundles of magazines tied up in string,
These are a few of my favorite things..
Cadillacs and cataracts and hearing aids and glasses,
Polident and Fixodent and false teeth in glasses,
Pacemakers, golf carts and porches with swings,
These are a few of my favorite things..
When the pipes leak,
When the bones creak,
When the knees go bad
I simply remember my favorite things,
And then I don't feel so bad..
Hot tea and crumpets, and corn pads for bunions,
No spicy hot food or food cooked with onions,
Bathrobes and heat pads and hot meals they bring,
These are a few of my favorite things..
Back pains, confused brains, and no fear of sinnin',
Thin bones and fractures and hair that is thinnin',
And we won't mention our short shrunken frames,
When we remember our favorite things..
When the joints ache,
when the hips break,
When the eyes grow dim,
Then I remember the great life I've had,
And then I don't feel so bad..
Ms. Andrews received a standing ovation from the crowd that lasted over four minutes and repeated encores.

Here we go again
Just checked the temp (in the sun) 122. Actual temp about 89. Yikes. I was going to work at putting the drip hoses in today and decided that I have to choose between healthy plants and keeling over dead. Maybe tonight.
