Unidentified Berry
Can anyone tell me what this plant is?? I found it growing wild, vining up a tree. It was just covered in these lovely looking berries ranging from green to midnight black. I'm wondering if they are edible, they sure did look good??

They DO look like elderberries, but they are growing on a vine, and the only elderberries I've seen were on a tree-like bush.

Looks like wild grape. The leaves look very similar to the cultivated grape strains. Be careful though. Poisonous lookalikes are out there but don't let that scare you. Take a leaf sample and compare it to pictures online. Many sources are out there online for safely identifying wild edibles.

Well, I looked it up in the Internet and three descriptions of the flowers which turn into the small berries were: large flat umbels, rounded panicles, and flat corymbs. Take your pick.
When I think of elderberries, rounded panicles came to mind. Also elderberrie are shrubs or small trees, not vines.

these are not an elder, but it does look more like a wild choke cherry, but that wouldn't be right if it is a vine... Did you take a sample to bring to your local County Cooperative Extension Ag agent? If not, it's a pretty good photo, they may be able to tell from the picture.

+1 and if they are, they make great jam/jelly. I made some about 35yrs ago.

The leaves do not look like grape leaves to me and the fruit doesn't look like a grape. I've seen these and have never considered them edible. I would only try one if I knew some one that is local who I trusted to tell me what they are.

They kind of look like Virginia Creeper berries to me. NOT edible..they are toxic. Do a Google search to see if I am on the right track...or not.

I don't think its Virginia Creeper, the leaves on that grow around a central stalk. This one has leaves growing out along each stalk in a linear fashion.
I will have to take it to the Extension Office if it comes back next spring..

The leaves don't look right to me for a chokecherry - and the chokecherries I am familiar with are not vining, they would be a shrub or tree.
