SFG in major schoolproject in the Netherlands
Hi to all you Europeans:
I'd like to call your attention to a huge project Jelle and I (the only Dutch SFG teachers) are initiating.
Jelle has entered a contest of the ASN bank with a childproject concerning SFG to teach children to eat better. We believe children who grow their own food are likely to develop a taste for vegetables and healthy food.
When we win this contest Jelle will illustrate the 'best garden book for children', and start a huge project for all Dutch elementary schools to bring schoolgardens into live again (there used to be a lot in Holland, now almost none) combined with suggestions for lessons for teachers.
Since Jelle is still young (17), children find him 'cool' and the media has written a lot about him already. A very popular TV-program made a serie of 4 small
programs with him. You can watch them on youtube (search for
'makkelijkemoestuin')
His website (www.makkelijkemoestuin.com) is well visited. Jelle is studying gamedesign and has developed a character that can take over his 'goofy' style that made him popular, since he is growing up...
A pity the contest in this season when most people have lost their interest in gardening... Please help us spread the word among schoolchildren! We do need a lot of votes!
You can help by going to this site:
http://www.voordewereldvanmorgen.nl/project/gezondere-kinderen-door-een-makkelijke-moestuin
and click on the green button saying "Stem!"
Then all you have to do is fill in your e-mail addres (and the little sum) and click the button again.
Thanks!
Saskia (Den Andel, the Netherlands)
