We took a drive to a town about 60 miles away to see the white squirrels at the park there.

Wow. Shocked Thanks for sharing! Very Happy Are they just white squirrels or are they actually albino greys?

I think they are albino, this is a link to the place we went to see them in the park, and it said albino.

We had a power outage early this evening. The Public Utility District said it was due to a squirrel (leaving the rest to imagnination). We are of the opinion the color of the late lamented squirrel is probably ash. Nonna

Yep. We used to get that a lot around here, too. It was so common around the county in the 1980s, the electric company went on a rampage covering all the exposed junction points.

Once you hear it, you will never forget the sound of a transformer box blowing up. And, when it's due to a tree rat, it really stinks for awhile.

We have black squirrels around here, which are really pretty. The white ones, which I have never seen before, are really cool looking, except their heads do look particularly rat-like.

I can't help it- I'm prejudiced! Even though I am a gardener, I love chipmunks, like squirrels, and was brave enough to play with a friend's pet rat. But they do make my skin crawl.

Okay, enough hijacking - thanks for posting, Josh! They are really cool.

I used to work for Haverford College, home to a considerable population of black squirrels. They are pretty cool; and I never did get completely used to seeing them around. It's always striking to see an animal that's not the color you expect it to be!

A few years back I went to Hearst Castle for a tour. We had to park our car at the visitor center and take a bus up the mountain to the castle. While on the bus, with tourists from all over the world, I was looking out the windows for wild sheep and zebras and antelope, critters from the former zoo. Suddenly the four folks behind us got very excited stood up, squeeling and pointing and trying to get close to the windows for a better look at a squirrel. A Squirrel! Apparently there are no squirrels in Australia. It was pretty funny. I would probably do the same if I saw a kangaroo out the window. Very Happy

Squirrels are just rats with fancy tails.
