New Sqf'er here from Loveland, Colorado. I am 44 yrs old. One wife and three kids. Well, 2 kids and one teenager. Make that two 9 yr old twin boys and one 14 yr old girl who live with us... Very Happy
Anyway, I have recently lost over 80 lbs with Weight Watchers and have really been trying to watch what I eat. I do or have done a fair amount of gardening and some things grow well for me and some don't. Looking around in the library for a compost book I stumbled upon Mel's book and have been hooked ever since.
I do live on a small farm with goats, lots and lots of chickens, ducks, horses, cats and dogs. Growing some of our own food just makes sense.
This looks to be a great site and I have spent lots of time already just searchin and readin.
Hopefully sometime in the next day or two, I will have my first box filled with MM and garlic planted.
Pics are coming soon for progress reporting!
Looking forward to the adventure.

Welcome Rooster! There is a wealth of information on this forum, it has definitely helped me a lot this summer! Congrats on your weight loss- growing your own food will probably help a lot with eating right- it gets you excited about vegetables in a strange way! (brussel sprouts have always been a favorite, but I've never been excited about them til I grew some!)

I am very excited! Finding my ingredients for MM was rather simple and painless for the most part. I discovered that vermiculite is readily available in the area...in the spring lol:shock: I had no real problems finding nurseries that carry at that time of year, but this time of year is slim pickens! One garden center had it for $59 for the 4 c.f. size. Most in the area generally carry it for $20 less than that thank you very much. Ended up paying $32 for it. No problems finding 5 different composts. It was very exciting buying aged poo! I do have my own compost going, but have not been very "hands on" with it till recently. Like I said, I was originally in the library researching compost when I stumbled upon Mel's book. Living where I do, I have lots of compostables readily available. But I wasn't planning on this endeavor so needless to say...I wasn't ready with my own:affraid:

Next season though its game on! The 4x4 box I am starting now will probably be the only one that gets its compost from outside the farm.

Hello From Colorado! 396615 rooster.

I can see you are going to end up with huge carrots etc. with all that lovely poop you have. I am a little envious of that, but then you have to do the shovelling.

Don't forget to compost the stuff. Hello From Colorado! 61949
