Oct. update for the C&T South
No doubt you are all busy planting and caring for your fall gardens as am I. The collards, mustard, and brussle sprouts are doing well. My beets are sprouting. My zuccs have more squash vine borer eggs than the spring ones did. I may not plant them again in the fall. We will see what happens with those.
So what is happening in your gardens? Our poor Texas commrads are still in drought conditions I feel for you guys. We have gotten some rain here but still very dry.
We are so lucky to have so many frost free days. I am excited to see what we have instore this fall and winter.

Re: Oct. update for the C&T South
Went out and weeded my empty beds this morning. Surpised at how much had come up in the 2 weeks since I last went out there. (Yet it took all of 3 minutes for 2 2x8 beds!) We've had a miserably hot summer that is just starting to break a little (still 78/98 tomorrow). But we're starting to get some 72/92 days that give me hope.
We got a nice rain on Saturday and I was thrilled to see that my beds are still nice and moist from that. It's been difficult to get the MM rehydrated since the move. Was making nice progress on getting things set up a few weeks ago when I got a phone call from DH, shouting that he and the 2 youngest had just been in a major accident. Van was totalled but fortunately no one was seriously injured. Hopefully it was a wake-up call to the family of the elderly man who ran the red light that it's time to take away the keys. Down to 1 car and DH works an hour away. Both girls down with Hand, Foot, and Mouth at the moment and keeping an eye on the the boy...he'll probably come down right when we think we're in the clear
So, anyway, coming here to try to get some motivation to get going on my fall garden. If I had a car I would probably be looking at tomato starts right now. Everything else I think I can still do from seed since it's highly unlikely we'll have a frost until January.
