LOL - that may have worked pre-internet. Now, they'd search for "Kill-off-if", andplantoid wrote:tie a nicely ripening tomato in a bit of netting and anchor it to the ground by a cord.
if it is undone, it's humans or a bloody clever squirrel .
Next step
make a notice saying caution all tomatoes in this have been sprayed with a toxic pest killer " Killoffif " , if consumed seek urgent medical aid
If no more toms go missing it is a literate human thief
on not finding any such thing, would be back prolly. - Human-thieves are too sophisticated. Gotta come up with something fool-proof like what?

How about a simple sign that reads: Please don't take our tomatoes. We have a wonderful garden and I am happy to help you establish and grow your own.
Its a small guilt trip that will stick with them.

Re: What are you NOT eating from your garden today, or human pests?
I'm amused that this thread has made a reappearance after several months. My problem appears to have gone away. This year, I planted the Moretons a bit farther into my yard so they're not right next to the street. In addition, I've planted several odd varieties (Black Krim, Green, Jersey Devil, Sungold) that don't look like supermarket tomatoes when ripe. So far I haven't lost anything this year.
