It's about time. You don't need a girlfriend for another 15 years. Spend your time on your strings and gardens, and girls will always be around.
Re: It's over....
Perhaps this will help in the future: Women are like telephones... they like to be held and talked to but if you push the wrong buttons you could be disconnected
And remember, there are two theories to arguing with a woman. Neither one works.

HERE HERE!
I started hammering my son when he was younger than you: 'Do yourself a favor: No wife or babies until you're 25'. He's 28, has no wife or babies, and he recently told me that I should have made 30 his objective!

Ugh Josh! Gutted! Sorry. There is another fine lady out there for you, don't fret. Oh, and I'm not getting any audio from the video... is it just me?

Re: It's over....
Hang in there Josh. Eventually as you get older the right girl will come along. I married a wonderful guy from Huntley, IL. and he is the greatest person I've ever met. You have much going for you-one day a girl will appreciate & love this about you. Wait for that rightful girl, the wait is far worth it in the long-run.

Re: It's over....
Oh jeez, people. Breaking up is a fact of life or we'd all marry the first girl we met. And, after actually finding the one God made for you, you wouldn't want that first one anyway....or second....or third. It's the FINAL girlfriend that sticks.
Suck it up and get on with it.
Now, wait until college. You will be going through this emotion 5 nights a week......if you do college correctly. Get to know them all, Josh. It's the only way you learn which one is actually for you.
Peace out, Homey.

Sorry Josh. I know you are really upset about it. Some times, it feels like you will never be the same again when this happens. But, you will and some day you'll find the right one. Life is as long as God gives us. If you live to be 100 (or even 50), I kind of doubt you will even remember what this girl looks like. But the experiences, good and bad, are what makes us who we are.

Now, if you make it to the verse about "the Frio River, where I learned to swim," I (TheBBG) actually have family land near the headwaters in Leakey, TX. It is some of the prettiest country I've ever seen.....even though I haven't been there since I was 12.....25 years ago.

When I saw the title of this thread, I thought someone was breaking up with their SFG!
Sorry you're feeling blue. But thanks for sharing your guitar playing. This makes me want to learn guitar! That's very cool Josh. Are you self taught?

Re: It's over....
I don't know what to say except the sooner you forget her the sooner there will be room in your heart for the next GF. I wasted way too much time pineing away for my high school sweet heart. Please don't make the same mistake I did, you are too good a guy to go to waste.

Just want to say I can empathize with the pain, and I will tell you that it does fade and it will get better. The strings should help.. Hang in there babe...adult life is coming and you will look back and wish you had these problems again! (wink wink) Boffer has some super advice I would go with that.

Most importantly, remember there's Ms. Right and there's Ms. Right Now... and don't look for Ms. Right during college.
You'll have plenty of ladies and fun dating post-college as you SLOWLY learn what you're really looking for in Ms. Right. In the meantime, enjoy Ms. Right Now.

Re: It's over....
Awwww. I am sorry Josh. I understand when you are in the throes of it is seems like nothing else matters. Even potato towers! But use it to decide what you would and would not want to see in the next girl. Refine your specs.
There will be more and you really need to hold out for one that appreciates you as the curious, thoughtful, funny, articulate, well-rounded, talented boy/man that we have all gotten to know here. Do not settle my friend. You have a partner out there.
I used to have a friend whose 'relationships' lasted two weeks in high school. LOL. Being with a high school sweetheart for life is very unusual. Take your now tougher and more resilient heart and see what the world has to offer.
But hey, now you understand both the love and the break up songs! You can't be an artist without experiencing life.

BREAK UP WITH MY SFG!... ....NEVER!!!
I do take guitar lessons, I play by ear, tabs and read notes. I play the slide by ear, self taught, with the blues you have to make the guitar play how you feel, I'm no Ry Cooder...but it's my first heartbreak
Well everyone I talk to says what you all have been saying, so it must be true.
Thanks everyone for all you support and advice!
Re: It's over....
I know it hurts, Josh, but the only way to never have a heartbreak is to never attempt closeness with someone. I wouldn't want that for you. There will undoubtedly be more heartaches in the future, but you will, as somone else said, learn more about what you want in a companion with each relationship. Hang in there and have fun learning.

Re: It's over....
Josh, do yourself a favor and look up Steamroller Blues by James Taylor on youtube. This one ought to shake you loose on the gueeeetar a little. And, anything by BB King is special listening, too. But, if you listen to Steamroller, make sure you absorb all the lyrics....deep stuff, but originated as a joke. He quipped on stage once that he wrote this song as a sarcastic approach to blues music...such that ANYone can be good at the blues, with ANY lyrics, if they put their soul into them. He intentionally tried to think up the strangest, funniest, and wierdest lyrics he could and it wound up being one of his biggest hits. He wrote the song in about 15 minutes while half drunk and making fun of people in a psuedo jam session before a performance.
Ahh, heck, here's the clip....I just had to hear it again. Any lick that says, "I'm a churnin' urn of burnin' funk" had me at hello. My all time favorite "blues" song....lol.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQYdCQSGl5A&feature=player_embedded
Another that's a bit more intense....and likely how you're feeling lately..

Re: It's over....
So many of the world's most famous artists had such tragic lives or events in their lives shape their art. They had the amazing ability to channel that tragedy into art. Obviously, I don't have that....lol.
However, the true artists, imo, used both the bad AND the good to showcase their art. They were in such tune with their emotions they channeled both...and you can see it in their work.
If Josh is really into the arts of music, he will learn this as he goes on. My challenge to you, is to embrace all of it, no matter how tough, and channel it into your art. You will find it not only liberates you, but provides therapy. It grounds you, and inspires you. And, best of all, it teaches you ABOUT yourself.

Haha, funny you should mention that. When my husband left I could not listen to Bonnie Raiitt anymore. A little too real.
