I have a Waring blender and standard size jars don't fit (my blender is too big). Nor the Magic Bullet. Darn!

Also, some immersion blenders have an accessory jar and blade for chopping things like herbs or a handful of garlic cloves. I use mine (a Kitchenaid KHB) a lot when making pesto and such. Oh, and BTW, here's how I peel garlic cloves quickly and easily: http://www.thekitchn.com/thekitchn/tips-techniques/how-to-peel-garlic-quickly-and-easily-044659 Nonna

Been doing this for years!

I have a 30+ year old Sears CounterCraft blender. It's really a Hamilton Beach in a Sears package. The only thing I've had to replace is the gaskets, although I did buy a second blade as well just to have on hand. I can still buy the parts.

This CounterCraft blender came with two different size plastic jars with lids and I discovered one day that I could use canning lids on them...so I just thought I would try blending some salad dressing in a pint jar once and it worked fine. Nothing in the instruction booklet about it at all, just decided to try it. And yes, I still have the instruction booklet too!

One word of caution about using closed containers. Make sure you never fill it more than 1/2 to 2/3 full, especially if you are blending something that expands or is hot.

lol! If I had a blender I'd be having to restrain myself, too! Now I know I'll have to take a jar with me when I shop for a blender just so I'll be able to buy one that will work.

I have the Hamilton Beach model and have used it for blending salad dressings for years.

A wide mouthed pint jar fits my Kitchenaid blender but the blades just touch the edge of the jar, they can't spin without scratching the jar. I guess I need to buy a dozen quart sized large mouth jars just so I can do this...I wish they sold canning jars individually!

QuiltBea and Rebecca: Look at a local thrift shop, like Goodwill. They usually have canning jars, even old ones, which you can buy one at a time, or a whole box full. My track record with Ball jars is bettern than with the kerrs, but YMMV. Good luck.
