Question about mushrooms as compost.

My lawn is sprouting plenty of mushrooms, can I chop them up and put them in the compost pile?

Very good question since I have been hunting King Boletes and Chanterelles lately and there is a ton of other stuff out there. Been wondering if bringing the other mushrooms home for compost fodder would be a viable option or a poisonous option. The trimmings and bad stems of the edibles are going into the bin.

I'm not an expert, but I put things in my compost that I can't eat because of their toxicity, such as rhubarb leaves, tomato plants, some weeds, etc., so I can't imagine that wild mushrooms should hurt. The only problem you might have is, if your compost doesn't get hot enough to kill the spores you might end up with lots of mushrooms in your garden. No
