Do pressure cookers go boom? Empty Do pressure cookers go boom?

Post  boffer 9/4/2011, 8:34 pm

It was one of those pleasant, mellow, late summer days this AM when my wife and I went out to harvest some goodies before it got hot. She went into the house to vacuum pack some food for freezing. I went to the 'outdoor kitchen' in our shop to do some canning. I made some dilly beans, and then decided to hot pack 18 pints of green beans. I asked my wife to give me a lesson in using the pressure cooker because I hadn't used it before. I decided I could do it alone, and the last thing she said on the way back to the house, in a teasing voice, was that she wasn't hanging around when I was using the pressure cooker, just in case.

So I got the stove set up right to maintain pressure, and there I was, twiddling my thumbs while it cooked. I couldn't resist. I ran a garden hose into the shop and set it up so it would be spraying water out of the door that my wife would see when she came running. I put on my ear muffs, stepped outside with my 12 gauge shotgun, and fired one round into the grass. I quick stepped back inside, and was sitting there drinking coffee when she came running in as fast as she could go, with a panicked look on her face . She looked at me, and she looked at the shotgun. Looked at me; looked at the shotgun. Looked at me, and then said something I can't repeat.

Dinner bell just rang; that's a good sign! Gotta go. happy banana

HAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!

I just tried a new pressure canner yesterday for the first time that I was borrowing from my neighbor. It was brand new and still sealed in the box. When I asked how to use it, the neighbor said it was simple and to just read the instruction book. Crikey!!! I was afraid I was going to blow up the house too. But this was one of the newer ones with an emergency overflow valve. Our house is still standing, but I am tempted to go shoot off our shot gun and give the neighbor a call.....Laughing

Many years ago I stayed for awhile with some friends who had a big black cat that for some reason I just wasn't very fond of. We were both in the living room one day and he was on the back of the sofa on the other side of the room sneaking up very slowly and carefully on some kind of bug or something, getting ready to pounce at just the right moment.

I smiled to myself and right before he pounced I yelled out a big hissss like an angry cat. He jumped 3 feet off the back of the sofa, straight up in the air and I couldn't stop laughing at him!!Do pressure cookers go boom? 889526 I was so pleased with myself!!!!!

Just about 3 weeks later, I returned home from work one day. The steps to the upstairs were right across from the entry doorway and there was a space of about 5 feet to walk across to get there.

Just as I put my foot on the bottom step, this cat came from out of nowhere and sped underneath my raised foot like a bat out of you know where....scared the you know what out of me. Do pressure cookers go boom? 523562 And yes, I saw him roaring with laughter over in the corner. We had a better understanding for each other after that!!!

Somewhere in there is a moral to this story.......Shocked

Denese, you've got it right.

Boffer, I don't see how you managed to survive this one. She is a much more gracious lady than I would have been.

That one had me laughing, good one. I can just imagine what she said since I know that I would have said. I am glad I am the only one in the house that uses the canner!

I don't think my Mary would see the humor in it. On the other hand I think that is the best Garden gag ever.

Very much the lady, but I haven't payed her back yet for this:

I was guest of honor at an event of several hundred people. She set me up soooooo well, that there was no way I could stand in front of all those people and graciously refuse to dance a waltz with a man in drag! I'm secure enough to dance with a guy, and I didn't complain too much about his crooked wig, smeared lip stick, one of two balloons deflated, or his hairy legs. But the guy couldn't dance the woman's part.

We looked like Greco-Roman wrestlers as we tried to out-muscle each other in our attempts to lead, in 3/4 time! We both had smiles on our faces and gritted teeth, as we swore at each other under our breath. It had to be the longest dance of my life, and it didn't help that Liz was right there on the edge of the dance floor egging on 'the lovely couple' each time we danced past.

That night's been forgiven, but not forgotten! No sympathy for wifey this time!

I had to double check...21 years. We work because she's smarter than me. And I know that she knows that I know that she knows that I just say that but really she could be if I admitted that I am but she's not because I know that she is when she wants to be or I let her be or she wants me to let her be or she twiddles her thumbs and watches me be whatever I think....oh heck, I usually start it, but she can hold her own, and it always ends up in win-win smiles...or better.

Okay, that just made my whole day.

And it must be nice to live somewhere that you can fire a weapon in your backyard and not have all the glendale police on your lawn 10 minutes later!
