Six inches of Mel's Mix - Enough Said!

First time growing. I thought 6' was enough, but had to add 2' more onto the top using a step ladder.

Your corn looks great. What compost mix did you use?

Tried to count but didn't get all the way. How many stalks and I suppose the chicken wire is for support??

I grew mine in what was more like Mel's Dust. It had settled so much it was closer to three inches than 6 but still managed to get a good crop!

Corn and Mel's Mix Empty Re: Corn and Mel's Mix

Kingtoad;

I used the Mell's Mix I made up myself per the ANSFG book. The compost had, Black Kow, Lobster Compost, Leaf Grow, Mushroom compost and another I don't remember from a local hardware store.

The Chicken wire cage I built to keep out all the other animals. I started at 6' and had to increase it by 2 more feet. I planted 4 squares with 4 seeds per square and then planted the other 4 squares to stagger the crop harvest. All was going good until the stink bugs hit. Many of the ears were deformed.

There is one thing I forgot to do and that was to put the 4" netting horizontal(about 4' from the ground) to hold up the stalks. They did ok but not what it could have been.(see the book)

This was my first attempt using the SFG method for corn. I just planted my first corn seeds yesterday for this year. We will see.
