New from Virginia
I am new to SFG. In the Spring, we had someone make us a 4' x 8' raised garden bed that stands 18" tall. He made it so we are even able to sit on the perimeter of it to tend to the plants. We made a grid with 32 squares. We were so successful with cucumbers and peppers that we couldn't use them or even give them away fast enough. My cousin taught me how to can dill pickles using the cucumbers. We canned 12 pints. I am looking forward to planting some vegetables for a Fall garden. Next year we will need to use a vertical frame for our vines.
We are having so much fun with SFG

Wow Becky! Sounds great.

I have seen women looking at jewelry ads with a misty eye and one hand resting on the heart, and I only know what they're feeling because that's how I read the seed catalogs in January - Barbara Kingsolver - Animal, Vegetable, Miracle

Becky, VA Gardener
from a Becky that is from VA, but now lives on the Oregon Coast.
Sounds like you have had a pretty good first year.
Hope you do get your trellises up, because you can get those vining plants up and out of the way where they take up so much less room.
Get those fall veggies in soon, so tender plants will have a chance to mature before your first frost. You can also plant carrots, onion, garlic which can overwinter in many gardens.
We look forward to hearing more on how your garden progresses. Please share pictures with us too, cause we love them.

Re: New from Virginia
I tried to post some pictures of our garden box but was unsuccessful. Perhaps someone at the symposium in Baltimore can show me how to do it.
