This will be my second year with SFG and I don't know what to do about some plants left over from last year. I left some kale plants in over winter and they have big thick stalks and massive roots. If I pull them out they take my grids with them. Any suggestions? pulling out old plants Icon_eek

I say peel back the bedding mix and use some pruners to clip the roots.

I had a similar problem with an okra plant. It was 7 feet tall when I finally cut all it's leaves off and topped it late last summer. The stalk was as thick as my forearm. I was hoping it would rot away over the winter, but no such luck. I ended up having to use clippers to cut the roots which I left in the ground as compost. I've already replanted in that square for this year and everything seems to be fine.
