Do you know where your seeds come from?
We have a very strict no politics discussion on the forum here.
Sometimes gardening and politics cross especially when discussing seeds.
I don't want to incite a topic that will get us into trouble, however I do want to give you a link that holds an article you may or may not find enlightening.
I don't want folks to think this gives permission to discuss the highly volatile topics surrounding GMO seeds and Monsanto, etc because it always turns out to be an flammable topic and we don't need that here.
So please keep any comments out of the political mud puddle, I just wanted to give my favorite gardening people the information should they so desire it.

The Council for Responsible Genetics has a "Safe Seed Resource List" at http://www.councilforresponsiblegenetics.org/ViewPage.aspx?pageId=261
It's a list of companies which voluntarily have signed a non-GMO pledge, and it is a surprisingly short list.

Re: Do you know where your seeds come from?
For gardeners in British Columbia, Canada I would like to contribute the website of a farm near where I live who sell their own seeds.
I am tickled pink that I don't have to far to get non-M seeds.
It is www.maddogfarm.ca
I am on their seed mailing list for 2012. Reading the list for 2011 I am excited at all they offer and I am really looking forward to supporting them. I have my money ready and picked out what I want from their 2011 list so that I can order immediately before they sell out.

Very interesting post. I followed up on the second link and found a seed company here in town that I wasn't aware of, so that's who I will buy from! Thanks!

Re: Do you know where your seeds come from?
Your article makes me think I need to start learning how to harvest my own seeds.
Hey, would that make a good Rookie Topic series? I mean, how many carrots would I need to let go to seed to be harvested in their second year? I don't have a clue.
When and how to dry corn seeds? And on and on...

Out of the blue, this got started

Midmam just left for a couple hours; when she gets back, let's see if she has ideas of how to organize all the info so it can be easily used. That's the hard part on a forum: collecting, organizing, and presenting information, without too much manual work.
