From what I just read, you found the culprit. I think I need to grow the carrots far away from the infected area and plant them in my new SF garden.

From my experience, black swallowtail caterpillars really love carrots, parsely, and dill. Zebra swallowtail caterpillars feed almost exclusively on a the native paw paw tree (Asimina triloba). Tiger swallowtail caterpillars tend to feed in trees.
In addition to the SFG, I also have a native garden for the pollinators (pale purple coneflower, blackeyed susan, liatris, blanketflower, butterfly milkweed, paw paw, etc. I am also adding Walkers Low Catmint this year...bees love it.
