New Greenhouse
I have ordered a new snap & grow 8' x 12' polycarbonate green house and I am prepping the soil and my backyrad to recieve the new addition.... I am pretty fired up about it and I would love to take all suggestions..... I don't think I need to insulate the soil line along the permimeter because I am in Texas near Houston and we really do not get any snow here.... I will also be building a square frame for the base with 2" x 12" lumber.....Please chime in as I am in the process of designing the layout and the utilities.... Thanks!

New Greenhouse
It does not freeze or get near freezing very often at all here in Richmond Texas..... It does get cold in the winter and it requires me moving massive amounts of hanging and potted plants into the garage about (6) times a year...... I am very excited to place a Greenhouse in my backyard..... Thanks for the welcome, as well, by the way!!

Looking forward to seeing the greenhouse progress. Please keep us updated.
What do you plan to grow in your greenhouse, or is it more for winter protection?

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the forum, Improvisor! I'm so glad you've decided to join us!

What a tease! We'll try to wait patiently for the pics! I've never had a greenhouse, either, so you can help us all learn as you post about your project! I can't wait!
I believe you're in the Coastal and Tropical South region (me, too!). Be sure to check out the regional forum when you get the chance. Checking the old posts there may help you out and posting any new questions you may have that deal specifically with our region there can be very useful, too.
By the way, we're having a poll where members "vote" for their particular regions. It looks like somebody (can't imagine who) just "bumped" it up so that it is in the "Latest Topics" column to the left! Why don't you check it out, if you're so inclined, and vote for your new "Coastal and Tropical South" region. While we may be a bit competitive about it, it's really just an effort to determine how many members are in each region!

Oooh. I'd LOVE a greenhouse for starts. They are kind of taking over my garage these days. But I'd be worried about it toppling in the crazy winds we get.

Re: New Greenhouse
You may want to batten down the hatches, Tropical Storm (or depression, I have not yet checked today) Don is on it's way, they say Houston is in it's path. Now this could be a good thing as TX needs the rain, especially W TX, but if it goes to slow, it means floods from the runoff.....
Re: New Greenhouse
My dream is to have a nice big greenhouse one day.
But it just occurred to me: how does pollination happen in a greenhouse?

Very nice pics, Improvisor, so glad your wife helped you get them posted (I love that she did it!).
I love the stone and think your greenhouse is going to have a very attractive home. I look forward to seeing pics of the greenhouse as it goes up. I'm sure it will help all of us learn something about how to build a greenhouse!

Re: New Greenhouse
Welcome and Congrats on your in coming greenhouse. Every gardener needs one of any size. Can't wait to see your greenhouse and I hope it comes with ways to ventilate it. I heard of a few hobby greenhouses that were not ventilated very well and the new owners had to make a few adjustments and reconstruct a little. Ventilation is normally the only adjustments that have to be made.
