Does anyone have benches or other types of seating within your garden? This is something I am wanting to incorporate and have some ideas of my own but would love to hear from anyone else who has done this. Pics would be great! I intend to post some photos just as soon as I get the beds filled

I just have time for a quick note. I've incorporated several benches into my gardens along with a gentle sounding water feature to enhance the quiet time.

Pics to follow I hope.

I have a butterfly garden in the middle of the yard. My favorite chair faces the water feature which is flanked by the two raised bed SFG's.

I too will have something in the new area of the garden as soon as we get this dying pine tree out of the way! I don't know what yet but something for certain!

Sitting Area w/in the garden Empty Pergola

Post  SirTravers 3/28/2010, 12:21 am

Eventually I want to incorporate a pergola into my backyard garden so I'll be putting some boxes near the legs to let some vining plants run up and over.

Thats something I asked my husband to built one day for me too!

He just finished this bench today. The seating comes off and under it is enough room for three rubbermaid containers for storage!

Not yet, but I've been formulating plans for some simple benches that I'll make out of 2x4s. I don't see it happening for a few months at least though, most likely longer. If you want I'll post some plans for them.

Tim that is beautiful. Makes me miss my old place. My coffee chair is on my deck where I can overview everything. I need a deck cover, I cannot use it on a day like to day when the wind and rain are whipping in. One of the most amazing pleasures used to be wrapping up in a quilt on a swinging bench with pillows and a journal, listening to the unique bird songs under a cedar shake porch roof.

Someday when I'm not spending my money on new boxes, I am going to get part of this deck covered.

Deborah ....getting all nostalgic

Sitting Area w/in the garden Empty Thanks for the replies

Post  argardener 3/28/2010, 9:03 am

Thanks everyone for your replies. I took someone's advise about the Habitat for Humanity Restore. I didn't find enough lumber to build any boxes, but I did find 2 pieces that were already stained, 2" thick and 1' x 5' foot, $0.50 ea.. I didn't have any idea what I would use them for but I knew I would find a way to re-purpose them for the garden. I have taken two large cinder blocks and stood them on end (I may paint them), the lumber will be my benchtop.

I also found 2 chairs like Tim's, I always wanted some of them but they are too costly new. I bought a pair yesterday @ the restore for $30. They just need some cleaning up and waterproofing. My daughter stained one of them yesterday. I had her take a before and after photo that I will try to post later today.
