Yeah I was thinking that maybe I could do 16 when I finally woke up and realized if I can do 9 beets I could've put more radishes in.

When you say compost, is composted sheep manure okay? How cool can they take it? Maybe I could plant them in the fall?

In fall in my regular garden I till up an area then broadcast seed beets,radishes and several greens then when frost comes on I cover it all with plastic and harvest until at least late December. In a hoop covered SFG box that should work even better. 16 per square works real well been thinking about trying 25 as I don't have them around long enough to have crowding out problems. Being fast growers like onions you can put them in corners of one plant or late yielding squares.

For me, the key to eating radishes is butter. If you make a sandwich and slice the radishes very thinly and the butter rather thickly, it's delicious!

You can also make this:
Spring Veggie Sandwich
In a small bowl, mix together 8 ounces cream cheese, the juice from two limes, the same amount of balsamic vinegar as lime juice and a grind of black pepper. Spread generously on 6 slices of bread, then top each slice with a handful of thinly sliced radish, several arugula leaves and thinly sliced tomatoes. Top with another slice of bread.

And throw the leftovers in the blender for a veggie dip. The cream cheese takes a lot of the "bite" out of the radishes.

Unless I am using homemade compost with lots of ingredients, I prefer to use a blended compost, like the minimum of 5 that we use for Mel's Mix. Composted sheep manure would be a good addition to home made compost or added to a blend of various purchased composts.

Radishes don't do well in heat, but do well as a fall crop and can even take a light frost. Make sure you plant them early enough so they can mature before your average first frost date. You might even plant another square or two a week or two later, and take a chance that you only get light frosts before they mature.

I wouldn't have thought that lime and cream cheese would make a good combination; I'll have to give it a go.
