first year sfger -- best paint for decorating the box
Hi!
We're planting our first SFG this year. We're using untreated 2x6's lumber, and we plan to put them in front of the house. We would like to paint the outside of the boxes, but try as we might, we can't find any recommendations for paint. (We obviously don't want anything that will leach through the wood and into the soil.)
Can anyone suggest a safe type of paint to use on SFG boxes?
Many thanks!
Scott

I've been wondering the same thing! I'll be watching this with interest.
I know people have recommended treating the outside of the boxes with linseed oil to prevent deterioration. (It works fine on my gourd birdhouses!) I'm interested in painting mine something like bright purple.
I hope someone knows!

I just found this topic: https://squarefoot.forumotion.com/general-sfg-talk-f5/sealing-sfg-box-wood-recommendations-t389.htm
I didn't see much about a variety of colors of paint, but folks did mention barn paint and some sealers.
