The Pleasure of Sharing
This is my second year of SFG, and this morning I realised had a tiny surplus to share with someone.
So I thought of this lady who had recently returned from hospital after suffering a stroke, and lived alone except for her wild birds which she rescues and rehabilitates and returns to the wild. She has an 85% success rate.
I took her four radishes, some onion thinnings, two kinds of lettuce leaves, chard and kale. I told her they were 100% organically grown and had been picked only a half hour before. Her reaction was that she was so happy to receive my offering, said she had not tasted a homegrown radish in twenty years and would I mind while she ate one right there and then. The look of bliss on her face was a joy to see, and the fact that she appreciated it so much was extremely gratifying for me as well.
You bet she will be on the top of my list when I have a surplus.

Re: The Pleasure of Sharing
That's really nice to read about. Can't believe you already have a surplus in Castlegar? I am right next door and I haven't even harvested.
Thanks for telling us your story.

altergarden, Canada is a really big country and I don't think you can say you are are "next door" when you live in Alberta. That's hundreds of miles away from me. lol.
When you said "next door" I thought first of all that you were the forum member who lives in Christina Lake, an hour's drive away, then I saw that you live in Alberta.
My location is halfway between Vancourver, BC and Calgary, Alberta, just to give you an idea of where I live.
I said my surplus was tiny, but it was enough to give someone a couple of saleds providing they got any other ingredients elswhere.

Re: The Pleasure of Sharing
What a charming story. It is fun to share. The elderly lady that lives in the other side of the deuplex I live in gets to share with me as well as my Mother and brother.
