1st harvest

Hi,

My Daughter and I picked 4 radishes today. She was very excited and even ate one. They tasted great. A little different than what I am used to. Not so hard and crunchy. Should I have left them a little longer? It was 4 weeks and 5 days.

Potatoes are leafing like crazy, carrots and onions are sprouting, lettus almost ready to try, spinach growing, getting strawberries. Now if we just had a little more sun that would be great!!

That's exciting!

Kids like growing radishes more than eating them. I never had much luck with radishes so I can't give you advice.

I planted green onion sets, peas, spinach, lettuce, chard and radishes 6 weeks ago and nothing is close to being ready to eat. But you have a warmer climate out in kelowna than we do. We even had a touch of pea sized hail tonight while I was putting out my tomatoes!

That is wonderful! I am looking forward to eating my first radishes too. I have lost numerous radish plantings to various things this spring. I usually am eating them before this.

Altagarden, I don't have anything ready to eat yet either, except for some green onions and I am cutting oregano and thyme now.

My thyme, chives and a chocolate mint came back, but the oregano and 2 other mints didn't survive the winter. Wonder if there some varieties that do better than others?

That could be especially for some kinds of oregano. What kind of oregano do you have? I have Greek Oregano and have never had any trouble with it coming back. My sage did not survive this past winter though, which was weird. We had such good snow cover this past year and that usually helps. I have never lost sage before. My chives always come back too. Because it is so invasive, I no longer grow mint any other way than in a container so it doesn't always come back.

I bought a chocolate mint and an orange mint this year. I love them both. I also picked up a pineapple sage. I will have to see how that does. It smells awesome.

Not sure what mine was. If I see Greek oregano I will buy it! thanks for the tip.
