Worms grew in compost bin

I started a home compost bin last month. I was rolling it couple of times every week. Today i noticed that there are some white worms. Has the compost gone bad or did i do something wrong? I added some paper, kitchen waste from vegetables, etc. What else should i add to make it compost. Let me know if someone has experiance with it.

I've only read books so far, haven't started my composting yet. But I read in "Urban Homesteader" that if you add chicken manure your compost will heat up more and more quickly. I also read on the internet that straw helps it heat up but then your worried about the seeds and making sure you've heated it up enough to kill them. I would think heating it up would help kill the buggers plus turning it more frequently (to make sure all of the worms get in the middle were they would be cooked to death). You'll end up with compost much quicker, too.

Hey I don't know about white worms but worms are awesome for a compost. They are small tillers for the garden so if you have nice worms (nightcrawlers, small reds, not sure about white) they only help. Their waste sells for a lot of money because it is so good as a fertilizer Smile

They could be the maggots or larvae from house flies. That is why I try to keep my fresh garden scraps buried deep in the pile. I hate those things. Earthworms, red wrigglers, etc. are fine but those others are disgusting to me.

Sounds like maggots - Mother Nature's little garbage men. They can be part of the process, so don't worry. If the compost starts smelling, add more brown material (carbon) and stir.
